Cleaning and Care Instructions
Brandberg Amethyst has a mohs hardness of 7 which means it’s fairly strong and can be comingled with other stones without getting scratched or broken. Like most stones, if you drop it on a hard surface like tile or concrete it may break. Broken stones can still be used for crystal therapy. This is a personal preference whether you wish to keep the broken material or give its remains back to Mother Earth in a burial. Each crystal has a symbolic meaning for every individual. Some may view breakage as a break in patterns or energy. Perhaps you’ve overcome a cycle or behavior that causes stress. Essentially, a break is a release of negative pathways. So if this ever happens please don’t worry. It could simply have been an accident from clumsy fingers or just a profound change in your energy. Nothing to fear. Change is in the works for you regardless.
Brandberg Amethyst should be cleansed once a week if used on a daily basis. But a good rule of thumb is once a month for any stone that is just sitting around. Brandberg Amethyst can be washed in cool water with a mild soap. My favorite option for when I’ve been doing heavy duty healing work. The easiest way to cleanse is to smudge with sage, Palo Santo or your favorite incense. This option is best for clearing crystals that are mostly on display and not in regular use.
Another way to easily cleanse and recharge your collection is to place them near Selenite, Shungite or Black Tourmaline for at least 24 hours. I would go with only a few hours if it hasn’t been in use recently. And more than 24 hours if it’s “been through the ringer”. There are other types of stones that have the ability to detox and recharge but Selenite, Shungite and Black Tourmaline are the most commonly used.
My personal tip on whether to use sunlight or moonlight to recharge your crystal collection is only based on maintaining visual integrity of the stone. If I use sunlight, I will limit the time it’s exposed to the sun because sunlight will fade colored stones over time. Moonlight is the safest for retaining the stones coloring. Of course, take into consideration your intention and spiritual modality. If you need to set an intention to drive more life force energy, sunlight is your ally. In which case, coloring is not a priority but vitality is.
What about using salt or salt water like the ocean? Hmmm, I don’t have enough experience using salt on everything I own but I have seen salt deteriorate materials. In the early days I would carry my entire collection to the beach for a cleansing/recharge but a few pieces didn’t survive the process. Like my Selenite and Pyrite. Newbie problems. I feel it’s unlikely that dry salt will scratch Brandberg Amethyst. Ocean or salt water should be safe to use on Brandberg Amethyst. If I’m wrong, please let me know!
